Why Waldorf?
At the Nairobi Waldorf School we take care of the learning journey right through from Kindergarten to High School, with Classes 11 and 12 being dedicated to International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma.
Our wholistic approach to education encourages students to “relate, create and motivate” – building healthy relationships with those around them, enjoying new perspectives, and finding the inspiration to seek out their unique purpose in the world and pursue it with courage.
Teachers are committed to awaken an inner enthusiasm for learning within every student, thereby nurturing the capacity for joyful life-long learning. This does away with the need for the pressures of competitive testing and academic placement, allowing motivation to arise from within.
The health and well being of the school is created through a strong and engaged community that connects students, parents, teachers, and support staff. By working together, we seek to provide:
- a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
- the development of academic, artistic, and social capacities in each student.
- a carefully crafted curriculum that meets the unique developmental stages of the growing student.
We invite you to explore our campuses, one in Lavington, and the other in Karen. Come and enjoy getting to know the Nairobi Waldorf School, find out more about the Kindergarten, Primary, and High School years, come and meet our people!
VISION
“Nurturing Wholistic Beings”
MISSION
“To be the leading Inspirational School in Kenya by nurturing, through Waldorf Education, balanced, free individuals who are capable of critical, creative and flexible thinking.”
Our Journey
The school is proud to welcome over 501 children in the two campuses. NWST Karen Campus hosts the Kindergarten and High School levels of learning while the NWST Lavington Campus hosts a Kindergarten and Class 5 grades. We also have diligent staff of about 105 with over 40 of these being teachers at all grades.
The school moves to Mbagathi, extending the kindergarten to a 1st Grade Primary Class. The Mbagathi Steiner school continues to run successfully; now a fully fledged kindergarten and primary school known as Rudolf Steiner School, Mbagathi, transition their children successfully into the Kenyan Curriculum Secondary schools.
In a small house along Magadi road on the outskirts of Nairobi City. It was led by 3 teachers from Germany, namely Florian, Vojko and Irmgard.
In 1994, a new Waldorf Kindergarten opened its doors in a beautiful residential suburb – the Kileleshwa Kindergarten. This was initiated by a group of parents who had been impressed by the Mbagathi kindergarten but needed something in a more central area.
