NWST Admission Process
We welcome prospective parents/guardians to book an appointment for a school tour and an explanation about the Waldorf curriculum on the campus of their choice. This involves an in depth discussion of the curriculum and deeper understanding of what the school offers with the respective class teacher or school administrator.
NWST Admission Process
The admission process begins with a parent/guardian filling in the NWST Application Form and submitting it along with a non-refundable application fee of Kshs 5,000/- per child. Payments can be made via :

An observation period is then scheduled in the respective class according to the child’s age. This involves five consecutive days wherein the teacher(s) will informally evaluate the child based on the curriculum and criteria for the child’s age thus ascertaining the child’s ‘readiness’ for the class. This time also allows the child to acclimate to the school environment and become familiar with the school day, subjects offered, the teachers, and class peers. Parents are also encouraged to observe in the respective class to enable them to have firsthand experience of the class curriculum and to ensure that the parent’s expectations are congruent with what the school offers.
After the observation period, the class teacher will have a feedback session with the parents/guardians of the child to discuss the assessment findings, way forward and the admissibility of the child. The Nairobi Waldorf School Trust strives to honour all requests for admission, but final admission and placement decisions are based on space availability, as well as the School’s/classes’ ability to provide the education and support required for the individual child, which is a decision made by the teachers.
A positive recommendation to enroll the child given to the school administrator will lead to an invoicing of the fees to be paid for the child. Parents should pay full fees before the child starts to officially attend the classes.
Broad Criteria for Admission
The Kindergarten section has three set of classes as below;
- Toddlers Class: 18 months – 3-year-olds
- Playgroup Class: 3 years – 4 years
- Kindergarten Class: 4 years – 6 years
Transition Class
Within their last year of the Kindergarten class, students become part of the transition class.. The Reception Group are given more challenging and directed activities with a focus on the development of all the pre-learning skills required to enter Primary School with additional support from the teacher. Students join the Reception Group when they are in their last school year prior to moving onto Primary School at the age of 6 years.
Class One
Admission from Kindergarten to Primary School follows a detailed assessment of the child. Any child turning six years of age on or prior to the 30th of November of the given year will be automatically assessed for Class One readiness during Term II of the current school year. Children are not only assessed on their academic performance, but their social and emotional development as well – informing a holistic assessment of the child’s readiness for Class One.
Upon successful assessment, the child will then be admitted to Class One in September of that given year. Any child turning six years of age after the 30th of November of a given year will not be assessed for Class One readiness but will remain in Kindergarten class for one more year.
Children coming into the Waldorf Primary School from a different Kindergarten school will go through the same assessment process.
